An "old" unburied relic from the past

It's been over two months since Stephanie & I moved into our new place in Sherman Oaks, but I've finally decided to take the time and post (show it off) already. Sherman Oaks is a great location for anyone interested in living in LA. Other than downtown, its the perfect distance from almost anyplace in the city: Santa Monica, Northridge, Burbank, Hollywood, even Santa Clarita!

Just got back in town today for my last doctor's appt. (hopefully) which is tomorrow.

I've been developing my drawing style a lot lately - focusing a lot on my cartooning skillz, something I haven't really been very capable of doing till now.

Among many others, I drew these today. These are the only ones inked in. I haven't cleaned em up yet but I'll post em now anyway.

This was the day in which took place the great journey...

The following story entails the description of one of the most awesome action/adventure filled days of all time

Waking up, having slept waayyy in, planning to just make it to the internship on time, I get my lazy ass out of bed for some Honey Smacks. The intial plan was simply head to the internship, get off the internship at seven, and head to the Virgin Megastore in Hollywood where Weird Al was doing a signing for his new album. however things didn't play out as well as I had originally planned.

I say bye to Keena and get my ass on the 14, 5 then 170 on my way to work.

Partway there I notice, to my GREAT surprise...that my car is about to overheat like mad

So I call my house hoping my dad can help me out but he's @ work already so I listen to what mom has to say

Later, I'm at a 7 Eleven still discussing what to do. Afterward I buy a bunch of expensive ass water and fill the coolant thingy to the top

After letting the car cool a long while with some fresh water in the radiator I take a drive towards Santa Clarita where I hope to get my car fixed. I've already called into the internship to let them know what the problem is however moments later my car is now deep in the red so I stop at a gas station. Beginning to stammer, I ate my lunch and discussed with my mom the situation as she locates an auto repair shop to the south on mapquest.

I drive back south taking many many stops along the way to let the car cool down. yeah it was really dumb

I get my car sorted out, and wait for at least a couple hours I don't remember waiting and just pleasantly reading Jimmy Corrigan which is a pretty gorgeous comic Erwin and Time Magazine recommended to me. Actually this was when I called my work I almost forgot.

I get in my car, finally, and it works just fine, finally, and it's about 3:30 to 3:40. I'm really tired and just wanna go home and rest. I call into work and let em know I won't be coming in and am about ready to go when I remember something: Weird Al.

Not about to neglect the original purpose for my pilgrimage, I head to Hollywood to the Virgin where he's supposed to be.

I'm on Sunset Blvd. finally, and pass a million blocks before finding the Virgin. I go underground to the parking lot, come out and find out I'm at the WRONG STORE. I call/bother my mom for one last request - to check his myspace to find the address for the REAL store.

I leave the parking garage paying two dollars for having parked for maybe ten minutes and head to Hollywood & Highland. I haven't been to that part of LA in years. I remember how hot and unpleasant cities can be. Parked in a relatively cheap spot, eight bucks all day, I walk in the direction of Grauman's Chinese Theater (saw Buck Owens' star which was cool).

I get to that massive mall for my first celebrity encounter of the day: Alexis Bledel shopping right past me.

Reaching Virgin I come across my second: Clay Aiken already doing a signing for his new album. Lotta scary people there for that...

Being there hella early with a lot of time to kill I eat the most expensive/delicious set of wings at Johnny Rockets (add fries for only 4.38, not even joking). The waiter Earl was a cool guy though.

Sweaty and exhausted, I take a moment to check out some of the views of the place, watching Clay Aiken cross the street to jimmy Kimmel with screaming fans all around the street.

I head back to Virgin finding the place empty now, a handful of nerds wandering with their CDs in hand already. I make haste and join the small line which has formed already. I think I was the fifteenth person out of a billion so I was lucky/patient.
The nerds began to drive me crazy after a while..for like two hours straight. God help me
(This is a fairly accurate picture of me being cool amongst the nerds...)

Finally witnessing my childhood hero firsthand, he heads to the back for a few minutes and I get my stuff ready to be signed

They let us through a few at a time, only one thing could be signed. After all that playin it cool, talking to him up close was like elementary school all over again.
Al: "Hey how're you?"
Me: "Hey I'm doin alright (forgetting to ask how he was, pulling out CD cover)."
Al: "Awesome, so who's it to?"
Me: "'Jason'...and could you say 'I love you?' (realizing I sounded really gay) ya it's for a FRIEND of mine (gay in denial, he probably thoguht my name was Jason godhell)"...

Then I asked him about when he graduated - mom wanted me to, they went to college together. He was surprised and glad to hear that and wished her his best.
Shook his hand, and made my way victorious, and filled with hope after meeting his greatness.

They asked me to create four ethnic characters performing four specific name signs (taking a letter, performing a unique action w/ it - that's how you say a name in sign I guess, ask Jason I dunno). Even if I dont get the job I'm proud of these so here they are

Collin suggested I update with a recounting of the current events which have taken place in my life here at CSUN...
It's kind of late so it's tough looking for inspiration in writing about such a broad thing as my experiences within the past seven or so weeks. I live in a nice dorm with very varied, and wonderful people on all sides of me which I'm very fortunate to haev come upon - my happiness can only be described as starkly contrasting to the loneliness and desolate feelings I had during my first weeks here. I've been fortunate enough to form strong bonds with the people here that I know may last for years after graduation, taht is if I play my cards right haha, and their companionship, thankfully, is sufficient enough to sustain me until I come back to the people up north who are (hopefully) awaiting my return too (not to sound like a showboat here...).
One of the thigns that I hoped to anticipate during the beginnings of my moved-out career would be the change that might take place in me that as taken place(rather drastically) in many others of us who've drawn their paths away from Bakersfield. I can't consciously tell for sure if I've changed very much however, despite continuing in my old habits such as enjoying myself just sitting in my room reading or on the computer, I feel as if I'm becoming more outgoing and learning not to worry so much about what others think of me. Looking back I now realize that my reactions to change have certainly become more rational and less troublesome as they once were. None of this seems really relevant to any of you guys though so I'll just move on.
I've kept, for the most part, fairly busy these days: keepin track of my financial aid, making sure to run every weeknight after class w/ my floormate(s), maknig sure to make it to Volleyball every Wednesday night (probably the best thing to happen to me in months), and spending as much time in the animation lab as necessary to complete my projects. I've become more creative and productive in art as well...I've, every now and then, been fortunate enough to find spare time to work on personal art projects - something I rarely exercised back home. I also wish it'd get cold sometime it's the middle of October for Chrissakes.
One funny thing I've noticed very frequently is the variety of reactions that I get when people find out I'm from Bakersfield: "Ohhhhh...that sucks" "There's nothing there! It's so desolate!" "Just recently I was at Bakersfield...the most POS town I swear"(overheard from person's conversation). I find myself very often defending Bakersfield as a town which really isn't so bad and unless you're some downtown-douche who'll hardly find the time outside of crappy shows and their stupid makeout parties (haha) to see past that. It's like Jason said; it's good to have pride in your home and you may as well since it's the only one you've got(...well, that I've got, it seems like).
Coming into this campus, more specifcally these dorms, as what feels like the only non-voluntarily single guy leaves something to be felt, howver having just let go of a pointless obligation I've put myself to for the past six years has really made me realize the value of my privacy and how much I really like being by myself. At the moment I don't think I could or would want to devote a large amount to someone else until I feel that I've spent tnough time working on me, which is Godknowswhen. Besides that I think I'm getting a thing for this girl in 3D Design but it's nothing now...that or the girl from Eisley aiyaiyaieee... I think people see me as a much less complicated person than...well...than I think I am.
Enough about that.
Unfortunately I haven't gone on any adventuers yet in the bigass city. We were supposed to go to the beach but that ended up not happening. Other than what I'v ealerady discussed, it's been pretty plain here aside from...well...volleyball - I get bored pretty easily and this week managed to skip two classes in two days which, admittedly, I'm rather proud of haha.
Sorry to my family for not calling I'm just not best friends w/ the phone these days.

So I'm going into the arcade here at Northridge and I walk to the (empty) counter to ask for change for a five.
The only clerk comes up and asks me if I need help w/ anything and I tell him that I need change for a five.
The first thing I notice is the guy is a dwarf. The rest of the conversation continued as such:
"Hi I'd like to get change for this five"
"Oh um I dunno if we can I might be a little _short_ on ones"
"You might be a little _short_?"
(checks the register)
"Yeah sorry I'm _short_"
"Oh okay thanks anyway"

It's about a man gone through his child hood and his teenage years to his adult life w/ his wife, two kids, and ownership of two successful jazz bars but is left empty w/ the absence of Shimamoto his only friend until she reappears and all this amazing stuff happens...very dramatic, very beautifully written and I only took two days to read it haha.
It gets pretty graphic though but you should really get itttt...
